COVID-19: Eye Care for Kids

Kids and technology are practically inseparable these days. Whether for educational purposes or just for fun, kids are spending a decent part of their day on “screen time” — gazing at the LED screens of laptops, tablets, smartphones, and other digital gadgets. In this case, Eyecare for Kids become an important concern for parents.

There are numerous reasons to set limits on your child’s screen time: To encourage outdoor activities, cultivate healthy sleeping habits, and to promote face to face social relationships. Eye health is another. In case you’re thinking about whether this screen time may mess up your youngster’s eyes and vision, the short answer is: “Truly, it does.”

Dangers related to an excessive amount of screen time:

Early signs include severe discomfort, redness, and excessive blinking. In extreme cases, it may result in Squint or Double Vision. Kids who are less than 3 years old, should not be exposed to these screens and the ones who are above 3 years old must have limited exposure for the sole purpose of Online Education.

Tips for Kids who use technological gadgets:

  • Blink: Train your brain to take breaks.
  • After a lecture of 20-30 minutes, there should be an interval of 5-10 minutes.
  • Online surfing and chatting should be highly discouraged.
  • No other screen-based extracurricular activities.
  • Follow the 20-20-20 rule: Stare at an object 20 feet far from you for 20 seconds after every 20 minutes.

Don’t Stress about the usage of screens for educational lectures, creative learning sessions, or video calling with family/friends.
Kids need this Social Connection. Now more than ever!
